Ludhiana: Members of the Narao Manch, Punjab, has once again requested the chairman of NGT Monitoring Committee for River Sutlej to measure the pollution levels in Buddha Nullah. Gurpreet Singh Chandbaja has demanded that the samples of nullah water should be collected in the presence of the NGT team. "We request the committee that tests for measuring industrial pollution should be immediately conducted before the industry lockdown ends," he said. An activist, Kuldeep Singh Khaira, said: "I have also requested the NGT to conduct tests to check presence of chemicals in the nullah." OC

Senior citizens donate Rs1 lakh

Ludhiana: The Rajguru Nagar Senior Citizens Welfare Association has denoted Rs1,01,400 to the Punjab Chief Minister's Covid-19 Relief Fund to help in the fight against Covid. Col Harbaksh Singh, president; KS Chawla, vice-president, and Malkiat Singh Rai, general secretary of the association, have expressed their gratitude to the members of the association and other donors. The association has lauded the role being played by the NGOs and other social organisations engaged in the service of humanity during this critical juncture. OC

One held for selling meat

Ludhiana: The Dugri police have arrested Puneet Singh, a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, under Section 188 of the IPC for violation of prohibitory orders issued in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The police said Puneet was found selling meat from his residence and customers had gathered there defying the curfew orders. OC

Three booked for extortion

Ludhiana: The Basti Jodhewal police have registered a case under Section 384 (extortion) and 188 (violation of prohibitory orders) of the IPC against Sanjeev Nanna, Raju, Jiwan Ram and their accomplices. The cops said the suspects were issuing parking slips and collecting money from vehicles arriving at Sabzi Mandi by posing as authorised representatives of the Mandi Board. However, parking slips issued by them did not bear any stamp of authorisation. The suspects also violated the prohibitory orders. OC

Four booked for assault

Ludhiana: The Haibowal police have booked four persons, including Kala, Baljeet Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Ravi, all residents of Jassian Road, Haibowal, under sections 323/341/506/34 of the IPC for allegedly assaulting Shankar, a resident of New Chander Nagar. Shankar said he along with his friend Sarbjit Singh, was thrashed while they were passing through Jassian Colony on April 25. OC
