At least five city girls were part of the Punjab cricket team that won DAV (U-17) National Cricket Championship in Noida, said officials.
The event, organised by DAV Managing Committee, saw teams from across the country vie to the title.
The five girls from DAV Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, who featured in the Punjab team, are Mishika Sood, Vaidehi Duggal, Pranika Jain, Karmanpreet Kaur and Manya Verma.
In the final, Punjab defeated Uttar Pradesh by 12 runs. After Punjab set a target of 91 in 10 overs, thanks to Vaidehi’s unbeaten 53 runs off 33 balls, Uttar Pradesh were restricted to 78 runs.
For the winning side, Vaidehi, Pranika and Manya were the pick of the bowlers.
Vaidehi was adjudged the player of the final for her outstanding all-round performance. She scored 53 runs and took a crucial wicket.
The girls have been selected for the National School Games (U-17), to be organised in Telangana by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), according to their coach Amandeep Singh.
Earlier, Punjab defeated Delhi in the semi final and Uttarakhand in the quarter finals.
The school management congratulated the students and acknowledged the efforts of their coach.
