Ludhiana, September 22
The Congress made a clean sweep in the Zila Parishad polls in Ludhiana district. The Indian National Congress registered its win in all 25 zones of Zila Parishad in Ludhiana. The Shiromani Akali Dal failed to open its account in the Zila Parishad. The Aam Aadmi Party, too, had to bite dust and it failed to bag even a single seat.
In 236 zones of Panchayat Samiti, the Congress has wrested 195 seats, while the Akali Dal has emerged successful in 33 zones. Eight seats have gone to Independents. In Dehlon and Raikot blocks, it has been a clean sweep for the Congress. In Samrala, the SAD has won six out of 15 seats.
In 2013 Zila Parishad polls, the Akali Dal had emerged victorious in 22 out of 25 seats, but it was not a clean sweep for the Akalis. The Congress had registered its win in Kaddon, Ramgarh Sardaran and Gill zones. The Akali Dal had led all the way in the 2013 Panchayat Samiti, with the Congress winning 43 seats, while the Independents had bagged 12 seats.
