The local unit of Congress on Sunday staged a protest at Baba Than Singh Chowk. It was led by Yogesh Handa, former district president, Youth Congress, Ludhiana Urban.
The demonstration was organised against what the Congress said were the state government’s “failures, incompetence and anti-people policies”.
The protesters burnt effigies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and expressed anger over the “deteriorating law-and-order situation” in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Handa alleged the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had handed over the state to criminals and drug mafias. He said incidents of loot, murders and shootings had become routine and drug cartels were openly destroying the future of state’s youth.
“Punjab lives in fear, insecurity and chaos. The government, police and administration have completely failed to maintain law and order,” he said, adding that the situation worsens with each passing day and there was no clear policy or intent on the part of the government to safeguard the citizens.
Handa warned that if immediate steps were not taken to restore law and order, the Congress will intensify the protests.
