Ludhiana, September 26
Six persons succumbed to Covid-19 in the district today while 172 contracted infection.
The Health Department confirmed 209 new cases, including 172 from Ludhiana district and 37 from other districts and states. Besides, 13 persons, six from Ludhiana district, two from Jalandhar, two from J&K and one each from Sangrur, Tarn Taran and Moga, died of the virus here.
The deceased include a 63-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man from Kot Mangal Singh, a 43-year-old woman from Sandhu Nagar, a 63-year-old man from Model Town Extension, a 62-year-old man from Jhammat village and a 62-year-old man from Daresi Road. A total of 708 persons have died of virus in the district to date.
Of 172 fresh cases reported in the district today, 15 persons are contacts of Covid patients, 23 visited OPDs and 86 with influenza-like illness reported at flu corners. The patients include six policemen and five healthcare workers.
The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said 15,355 (88.59%) patients had recovered to date. Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma said the number of Covid-19 patients getting cured in the district was increasing with each passing day. He said there were 1,265 active patients in the district at present.
Sharma said a total of 2,56,864 samples have been taken, of which report of 2,54,845 samples had been received. The reports of 2,019 samples were pending.
The DC appealed to the residents to follow all directions of the Punjab Government and if they would stay indoors, they would not only stay safe but would also contribute to keeping everyone around them safe.
