Karva Chauth has brought with itself the missing buzz in markets, however, as compared to previous years the options and varieties offered this year were less. The city markets have lit up to colours of bangles, fragrance of heena and aroma of mathi.

Many shopkeepers avoided huge display of bangles outside their shops and some were seen displaying just the customary red bangles.

“There was lot of confusion in the market due to the pandemic. I was double minded whether to invest in bangles or not. I decided to go with only red bangles,” said a shopkeeper from Ghumar Mandi.

Another shopkeeper from BRS Nagar said every year they display huge stall of bangles outside their shop but this year they bought stock which they were sure of being sold off.

“There is no use of huge display of bangles as it could have led to violation of social distancing also. We have designated bangle stall inside the shop and we have not gone overboard in displaying huge collection this year,” he said.

This year, very few special henna artists from Mumbai, Rajasthan and other cities have turned up here.

“It has been nearly eight years since I started getting heena applied from a group who use to come to Ludhiana from Mumbai. Their designs are unique and since this year the group did not came here so I decided to try my own hand at mehandhi,” said Anu.

Although the variety is less and many options are missing bit still the markets are abuzz with activity and the tinkle bells have added a cheer among the ongoing pandemic.
