Covid cases are increasing in the district with each passing day. Touching a new high, the number has reached 2,439 with 164 positive cases emerging today. Seven persons succumbed to the virus, taking the death toll to 58.

Those who lost their battle to Covid include a 66-year-old woman from New Subhash Nagar (Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital), an 80-year-old resident of Jamalpur (Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital), a 58- year-old resident of Basant Avenue (Civil Hospital), a 26-year-old resident of Jawaddi (DMCH), a 47-year-old resident of Model Town (Civil Hospital), a 59-year-old woman from Kidwai Nagar (CMCH) and a 69-year-old patient from Model Town (CMCH).

A 33-year-old resident of Jagraon and a 29-year-old youth from Giaspura with travel history have tested positive. Two police personnel from Kisangarh village and Sarabha Nagar have been found infected.

Three healthcare workers from VPO Manuke, Joshi Nagar and GTB Nagar are among fresh Covid cases. Four more cases have emerged in Khanna town, which include a 33-year-old man and a four-year-old child. The number of positive cases from Khanna town has reached 110.

The others, who have tested positive, are either contacts of Covid patients or are cases reported from OPDs. They belong to Rishi Nagar, Haibowal, Gurdial Singh Road, Police Lines, Haibowal Khurd, Dugri, Mundian, Focal Point, Narangwal, BRS Nagar, Sarabha Nagar, Ayali, Kailash Nagar, Dholewal, Shivaji, Radha Swami Road, Chandigarh Road, Isher Singh Nagar, Ranjit Nagar, Bhamian Khurd, New Kartar Nagar, Durgapuri, Miller Ganj, Model House, Tagore Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Rajguru Nagar, Sahnewal, Green Avenue, Sundar Nagar and Giaspura.

Patient ‘denied’ bed, notice to DMCH

Meanwhile, the Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, has issued a show-cause notice to the DMCH, which allegedly denied a bed to a 47-year-old resident of Model Town, who later died at the Civil Hospital.

Deceased Sanjeev Nagpal’s brother alleged, “My brother had difficulty in breathing. I took him to the DMCH. His sample was taken and he was given oxygen in the flu corner. His report came in the evening, which stated he was infected. However, the hospital authorities said all beds in the Covid unit were reserved and they had to shift the patient.”

“We tried at other hospitals, but no bed was available anywhere. Around 5 pm, we arranged an ambulance. But my brother died upon reaching the Civil Hospital,” he added.
