The Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders alleged that they were deeply anguished over “the deteriorating law and order situation in the city and the sorry state of the Police Department”.

“It is further agonising that the police are apathetic to the situation and despite repeated reminders, does not move an inch. We have submitted several cases to them in the last few months, but no probe has been initiated,” said Comrades DP Maur and Dr Arun Mitra.

Maur alleged that a case Section 376, 365, 384, 120B and 506 of the IPC has been registered at the PAU police station for more than one month, but the police have failed to take any action. He said they also met the Commissioner of Police on November 28, but to no avail.

Even in FIR no 218 registered at the Jagatpuri police post — a case on the complaint of victims who were “mercilessly beaten”— no action has been taken.

Maur alleged a murder case, under the Sunder Nagar police post, is lying unsolved for the past two years. In May 2017, one vehicle was caught with drugs, but the police has not only put off the case but even tried to destroy the evidence.

CPI leaders said party would launch agitation in this regard against the police inaction in various cases.
