Pankaj Advani, a 28-time world billiards and snooker champion, added another feather to his illustrious cap on Tuesday as he clinched the men’s 9-ball title on debut during the Manisha Constructions National Pool Championship.
In a gripping final against Nitin Sharma (Chandigarh), Advani from Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) was tied 4-4 before shifting gears with his trademark composure and precision. He then dominated proceedings, racing to an 11-5 victory.
The triumph cements Advani’s standing as one of nation’s finest cueists, highlighting his remarkable versatility across formats.
S Shrikrishna (PSPB) secured the third place, defeating Kushal Chandrashekar (Karnataka) 7-2 in the play-off.
In the junior girls’ competition, L Shruti (Tamil Nadu) emerged champion after a hard-fought 6-4 win over Natasha Chethan (Karnataka).
Jiya Sehgal (Punjab) outplayed Sanvi Shah (Madhya Pradesh) in the game for the third spot.
Aarav Sanchetri (Maharashtra) claimed the junior boys’ title with a consistent run, overcoming Laksh Sharma (Karnataka) in the final. Mayur Garg from Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) outplayed Rehaan Misra (Delhi) to secure the third position.
With the men’s 9-ball and junior events over, the attention now shifts to the senior women’s 9-ball championship. The tournament started on Tuesday.
In the men’s 10-ball event, the double elimination stage saw a mix of dominant performances and closely fought encounters.
