The festival of Dasehra was celebrated with fervour at more than 45 places across the city. Police personnel were deployed at venues in huge numbers.

Sources said around 1,800 police personnel were on duty to make sure that no untoward incident was reported. The victory of good over evil was witnessed as effigies of Kumbhakarana, Meghnadh and Ravana at various places — Daresi Ground, Model Town, Aggar Nagar, Pakhowal Road, BRS Nagar, Dugri, Focal Point and Jamalpur — were burnt.

At several places, political leaders were seen gracing the occasion. The police on the check-posts were checking four-wheelers and two-wheelers. Dasehra fair was held at several places and stalls of eatables were put up, singers were seen entertaining visitors and swings were set up for children.

Besides this time, effigies of Ravana were put up for sale outside Pavilion Mall. The effigy seller said he had brought around a dozen of them (3-4 feet approximately), of which seven were already sold out. He said he had filled the effigies with crackers.

However, celebrations led to traffic jams outside venues where effigies were burnt.
