DAV School, Gymkhana & Khalsa clubs clinch Ludhiana district basketball titles

Thrilling contests, spirited performances and outstanding individual brilliance marked the finals of the Ludhiana District Basketball Championship on Wednesday as Gymkhana Club, Khalsa Club and DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, walked away with titles in various categories.

DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, clinched two of the four titles up for grabs across under-14 and under-17 categories among boys and girls.

The championship concluded on an exciting note with several youngsters producing match-winning displays to underline the rich basketball talent flourishing in the district.

In the U-17 boys’ final, Gymkhana Club survived a spirited challenge from DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, to register a hard-fought 73-67 victory. Akshit Rana spearheaded the champions’ attack with 23 points. Ethan Messi chipped in with 17 points to ensure Gymkhana Club lifted the trophy.

Khalsa Club dominated the U-17 girls’ final, defeating Doraha Public School 57-34. Jivika led from the front with 16 points. Ashnoor Kaur Grewal added 13 points to the tally. Despite ending on the losing side, Doraha’s Alishdeep Kaur earned applause with a brilliant 21-point effort.

In the U-14 boys’ final, DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, outclassed Multipurpose Club 47-23 to clinch the championship. Savtoj emerged as the star performer with 18 points. Harshveer made a contribution of 16 points in the one-sided affair.

DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, also emerged champion in the U-14 girls’ category, defeating DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, 43-24. Sukhmani top-scored with 12 points, guiding her team to a convincing victory to complete a memorable double.

Earlier, Doraha Public School secured the U-14 boys’ third position after defeating Gurusar Sudhar 36-12. In the U-17 girls’ third place match, DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, overwhelmed Doraha Academy 35-7. Harveer dominated the scoring charts with 20 points.

International Public School claimed the U-17 boys’ third position, defeating Multipurpose Club 73-43. Arpan Sandhu stole the show with a scintillating 33-point performance, one of the finest individual displays of the championship.

In the U-14 girls’ third-place match, Ludhiana Care Club defeated Green Land School, Subhash Nagar, 30-14, with Parmeet Sandhu contributing 13 points.

MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

Congratulating the young players, he said sporting competitions nurture talent and instil discipline, teamwork and leadership among youth.
