Day 2: Commuters struggle in traffic snarls

Reconstruction work at Jagraon Bridge has missed multiple deadlines.

Ludhiana, December 6

Traffic snarls were witnessed at Lakkar Bridge, Old GT Road and other locations today too with Jagraon Bridge being closed to traffic for reconstruction work. Commuters were seen struggling in the traffic snarls during the closure of the bridge.

According to the Railways, the closure of the old bridge is urgently required for five consecutive days from December 5 from 11 am to 4 pm for launching temporary beams over trestle foundations. Massive traffic snarls were also witnessed yesterday.

Reconstruction work at Jagraon Bridge has missed multiple deadlines. The century-old dilapidated bridge was closed for all kinds of vehicles, except two-wheelers, on July 14, 2016. But reconstruction work started in May, 2018. Various NGOs have staged protests, seeking early completion of work. TNS
