Debt-ridden Jagraon farmer dies by suicide

Sukhwinder Singh, a 45-year-old debt-ridden farmer from Kotha Premsar village in Jagraon, died by suicide. He swallowed some poisonous substance, leading to his death.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning. A resident of the village, Jaswinder Singh, said Sukhwinder had incurred agricultural debts of around Rs 20 lakh. He owned less than an acre of land and farmed and reared livestock.

Sources said Sukhwinder consumed pesticide at his home on Tuesday morning. When his health deteriorated, his family admitted him to Kalyani Hospital, a private hospital. From there, doctors referred him to the Civil Hospital, Jagraon, where he died during the treatment. He was survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
