Dedicated sports injury hub set up for athletes at Ludhiana's Guru Nanak Stadium

Ludhiana is among 11 districts selected for such specialised facilities in Punjab

A dedicated sports injury hub has come up at Guru Nanak Stadium. The main aim behind the setting up of the sports injury hub is to provide specialised and rapid medical support to athletes. This facility is being managed by a team of seven officials, comprising a sports medicine specialist, two physiotherapists, two assistants, one nursing staff member, and one physical trainer.

An Out Patient Department (OPD) and physiotherapy services have started and lab is yet to be established for providing testing facilities to athletes. The centre offers on-field emergency response protocols, a nutritionist for healthy diet guidance, and counselling for anti-doping.

Ludhiana is among 11 districts selected for such specialised facilities in the state, with an initiative aimed at providing rapid medical support and improving athletic infrastructure. Others districts where sports injury hubs will be established include Ropar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Faridkot, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Mohali, Amritsar and Bathinda.

Sportsmen are being provided various services, including OPD facilities, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, performance enhancement guidance and necessary medical advice. Injury hub will open from Monday to Saturday (except official holidays).

Kuldeep Chugh, District Sports Officer (DSO), said, “The government is trying to provide the best possible facilities for athletes. This sports injury centre is a key part of that effort.” Chugh said the hub would serve as a primary resource for athletes to receive proper guidance and treatment before, during and after their matches.

“For players, quick medical support can make the difference between returning stronger or losing months to recovery. Having a sports injury hub right at the stadium feels like a safety net we’ve always needed,” said an athlete.

Main objectives

1 Specialised care: To provide on-field emergency response, diagnosis and rehabilitation for sports-related injuries

2 Performance enhancement: To help athletes regain fitness, enhance performance and guide them on diet and nutrition

3 Operational days: The centre will operate from Monday to Saturday and provide OPD services and expert advice to athletes
