Residents of Dhanon village vowed to educate daughters instead of saving money for their marriages.

All the villagers took oath during an event held under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” programme.

Child Development Project Officer Bahadur Singh presided over the event and sarpanch Amarjit Kaur was the chief guest.

Five girls and their mothers were felicitated by organisers on the occasion.

Speakers, including Bahadur Singh, Meena Kumari and Amarjit Kaur said education of women was required to bring much needed social reforms in society as functioning and success of every family depends largely on women.

Villagers were updated about various social welfare schemes which have been launched by the government from time to time to ensure that overall development of the entire society takes place.
