The Police Division No. 6 have nabbed a dismissed constable and his aide on the charge of snatching. Cops recovered a motorcycle used in the crime and police uniforms. The suspects have been identified as dismissed constable Gurpreet Singh of Lohara Colony and Kuldeep Singh of Shimlapuri.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP)-II Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said on June 11, Pawan Kumar of Janta Nagar had complained that on May 8, the two suspects, who were wearing police uniforms, had snatched a mobile phone from him. The police registered a snatching case against unknown suspects, the ADCP added.
Later, dismissed Punjab Police constable was identified in a probe, the ADCP said while adding that he was picked up for questioning during which he confessed to having committed the crime. The dismissed cop admitted that he was deployed in Ludhiana Commissionerate and was addicted to drugs due to which he used to remain absent from duty and was dismissed from the service on May 30, the ADCP added.
Kuldeep was also an addict, the ADCP said while adding that to buy drugs they targeted migrant workers from whom they snatched mobile phones and valuables. After selling phones, they used to buy drugs, the ADCP said.
