Ludhiana district admn intensifies efforts to eliminate immunity gaps with targeted outreach
Aimed at vulnerable, underserved populations
The Health Department, Ludhiana, today launched a Special Immunisation Week (SIW) till December 22, aimed at strengthening routine immunisation services and ensuring maximum vaccine coverage across the district.
The SIW prioritises outreach to vulnerable and underserved populations, ensuring that all eligible children receive timely and life-saving doses. The department aims to close immunity gaps and reinforce the importance of routine immunisation as a cornerstone of public health.
Civil Surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur has appealed to parents and caregivers across Ludhiana to actively participate in this initiative and ensure that their children are fully immunised.
In preparation for the SIW, a special training session was also organised for all Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) of the district. The session was conducted by Dr Harpreet Singh, District Immunisation Officer (DIO), Ludhiana, who provided detailed guidance on effective implementation of immunisation activities during the week-long campaign.
Dr Harpreet Singh highlighted the need to enhance coverage of essential vaccines such as Penta 1, OPV, and MR, stressing that achieving high immunisation rates ws crucial for safeguarding children from vaccine-preventable diseases. He urged all the LHVs to perform their duties with dedication to ensure the success of the outreach programme.
The training session covered key components, including micro-planning, vaccine administration protocols, proper cold-chain management, and strategies to tackle vaccine hesitancy within communities. LHVs were also briefed on methods to identify and reach children who may have missed routine vaccinations.
