Ludhiana, December 12
Role of the Division 7 police is under the scanner as a girl has alleged that the police, instead of taking action against a youth who harassed her, have registered a fake kidnap case against two youths who had saved her from the youth.
Workers of the SAD, led by district urban president Ranjit Singh Dhillon, staged a protest outside the police station demanding cancellation of the fake FIR and registration of a case against the youth who harassed the girl.
The victim, a resident of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar, who also participated in the protest, alleged that in May while she was heading towards her tuition centre, a youth stopped her, held her tightly by hand and passed derogatory remarks.
Though she submitted a complaint to the police against the youth, they didn’t register any case due to political influence.
On Monday, the youth again stopped her and tried to harass her. She called her two friends who saved her from the youth. Later, he reached her house. She called the police and handed over the youth to them.
“I also submitted a complaint but the same evening, the police, instead of registering a case of harassment against the youth, registered a kidnap case against the two of my friends who saved me from him,” the girl alleged.
Nachhatar Singh, additional SHO of Division 7, said the police investigation found the allegations of harassment baseless, and registered a case against Prabhjot and Major Singh for kidnapping a youth.
Meanwhile, the protesters said on the one hand, the Ludhiana police had been taking initiative, such as free ride during odd hours, for the safety of women, but on the other, they had registered a case against the two youths who saved a girl from her tormentor.
