Doctor, two touts booked for sex-determination test

The police here have booked a doctor and two others for their alleged role in conducting a sex-determination test.

A joint team of the Ludhiana Health Department and Ambala, with the support of the city police, had earlier conducted the raid at Ratan Hospital to expose the sex-determination racket.

The accused were identified as Dr Amarjit Singh, owner of Ratan Hospital, Ludhiana, and two touts Rani and Warsha of Tibba Road, Ludhiana. An FIR was registered on the complaint filed by the chairman of the District Appropriate Authority-cum-Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana.

Civil Surgeon Dr Sukhjeevan Kakkar said the team of the Health Department, Ambala, had conducted the raid at the hospital and informed the Ludhiana Health Department in this regard.

“We have filed a complaint with the police for the registration of a case against the doctor and touts for conducting the gender test. The ultrasound machines have been seized,” he added.

A woman was sent as a decoy to expose the racket. According to information, the touts had arranged the deal for the sex-determination test at the hospital. When the woman paid the money after the test, the PCPNDT team raided the hospital.

According to the police, the touts had taken Rs 9,000 from the woman after the gender test and for revealing the gender of baby in the womb. The currency notes were recovered from the accused on the spot, the police said.

A case under Sections of the PNDT Act, 420 and 120-B of the IPC was registered against the accused at the Division Number 3 police station here.
