Ludhiana April 23

A domestic help allegedly fled with cash and valuables worth several lakhs from a house in Gurdev Nagar.

The accused has been identified as Kalpana. House owner Rajiv Arora said he owns a business of ready-made garments and lives with his wife, two children and his brother’s family at Gurdev Nagar.

“We employed a cook and two other servants including Kalpana and Monika for our joint family. Monika works on the first floor, where my brother and his family stays, while Kalpana was working at our house. On April 19, we had gone to attend the marriage of our relative in Delhi. My elder brother Sanjay Arora, his family and two domestic helps Monika and Kalpana were present at home,” Arora said.

On April 21, when they returned home and entered the house, they were shocked to see the ransacked house, Arora said, adding that the lock of the dressing room was broken and the domestic help Kalpana decamped with Rs7 lakh cash and gold ornaments worth several lakhs. I raised an alarm and woke my brother, he said.

Later, when Monika was questioned about Kalpana, she informed that Kalpana left home in the morning and also took away her mobile phone. Arora suspects that Kalpana could have fled with the cash and valuables from their house. Investigating Officer ASI Pardeep Singh said efforts were on to trace the servant.
