The Supreme Court verdict holding senior Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan guilty of contempt proceedings has irked a section of lawyers who have come forward in his open support.
The Indian Association of Advocates and Democratic Lawyers’ Association today held a protest in favour of Prashant Bhushan and raised the demand of dropping contempt proceedings against him.
The protest was led by senior lawyer and member of the HC Bar Council Harish Rai Dhanda.
Lawyers alleged it was unfortunate that the Contempt of Courts Act was being misused by courts and authorities to repress even the genuine dissenting democratic voice of people. They claimed that the proceedings against Bhushan were against the fundamental rights granted by the Constitution. Today, lawyers appealed to the Bench of the Supreme Court to withdraw the contempt proceedings. — OC
