A Bilga-based elderly man was hacked to death by drug addicts near the railway track in Ladhowal on Thursday. The suspects killed the victim when the latter protested and refused to handover cash and valuables them. The deceased has been identified as Mohan Singh.
As per the SHO, Government Railway Police (GRP), Balbir Singh, the victim had come to take his old-age pension. When he was heading back towards his place on foot alongside the railway track, he was cornered by two drug addicts.
The suspects asked the victim to handover cash and other valuables, but the latter refused to do so. Later, the suspects started beating the victim leaving him seriously injured.
Four boys standing alongside the railway track chased the two suspects and managed to nab one while his aide managed to flee.
As the victim suffered serious injuries, he died on the spot. The suspects were reportedly under the influence of drugs when they committed the crime. “The arrested suspect has been identified as Mandeep Singh.
The suspect has revealed that he and his aide are drug addicts. They have no money to buy drugs,” the SHO said.
When the suspects noticed an elderly man, they tried to loot cash from him, the SHO added. However, the victim did not handover cash to the suspects, due to which the latter turned furious and thrashed him, the SHO said.
A case under Section 302, IPC, had been registered against the suspects, the SHO said.
