An awareness webinar for the legal fraternity on e-court services and e-filing of cases at the district court level was organised by the e-committee of the Supreme Court under the supervision of its chairperson Justice DY Chandrachud. E-filing was going to start first time at the district level in 739 districts across the country.

Speaking after the formal inauguration of the webinar, Justice Chandrachud said e-filing would be a revolutionary step in digitalisation of the justice delivery system at the district level. E-module would also help lawyers in maintaining the record of their cases. The target was to create 100 per cent computer literacy among lawyers.

Giving details about the prevailing e-court services, he said: “There were around 25 lakh hits on our service portal, 43 lakh downloads of e-court mobile app and around 35 lakh hits daily.”

He claimed that around 35,000 SMSes were being sent to lawyers, updating about next dates and around 3,50,000 automated e-mails to lawyers and litigants updating their cases. There were 461 master trainers from judiciary and they would spread awareness by making local lawyers as master trainers in 739 districts.

Bar Council of India’s chairman Manan Mishra, Attorney General of India KK Venuguoal Secretary Law and Parnab Mitra shared their views and termed it as a historic step.

State Legal Services Authority’s additional member secretary Mandip Mittal explained about the new system of e-filing in detail. He said 10 points for registration take 18 minutes but would open up a new gateway. He apprised that for availing e-filing services, the registration of lawyer with the CIS (court data base) was necessary.

Documents uploaded wrongly could be deleted easily. After filing, the lawyers would be able to see all documents and would be in a capacity to delete or change the document, as per requirement. Signatures of lawyers on e-petition would be done in three ways. One way was to have a digital signature, one option by linking with Aadhaar card and one process by OTP on mobile, Mittal said.

Nodal officer-cum-master trainer T T S Bindra (Additional Sessions Judge) answered queries of the lawyers. Judicial Magistrate Pavleen Singh highlighted features of the mobile app of the e-court services.
