Ludhiana, November 19

The Court of Judicial Magistrate Palwinder Singh has convicted eight persons on the charges of trespassing and causing injuries to two brothers.

The convicts, Baldev Singh, Sucha Singh, Mangal Singh, Balwinder Singh, Gurnam Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Gurtej Singh, all residents of Havas village in Ludhiana district, have been sentenced to imprisonment for two years each.

A case against them was registered at the Meharban police station on January 17, 2015, on a statement of Sandeep Singh of the same village. He told the police that on January 13, 2015, they celebrated Lohri in their house. After celebrations, they went to sleep.

Around 10.30 pm, eight persons barged into their house after breaking the lock on the main gate. They also broke the lock of his brother Manpreet Singh’s room and started beating him after dragging him out of his room.

When his brother raised the alarm, he came out of his room. The accused, who were carrying baseball bats and sharp weapons, also beat him up, said Sandeep.

The accused pleaded innocence and claimed false implication. It was pleaded that the case was a counter action to the FIR registered against the complainant’s brother on the accusations of rape, obscene acts and other charges on January 15, 2015. But the complainant stated that they were attacked two days before.

The court held that the motive behind the occurrence was also proved as Manpreet was having a love affair with the daughter of Jeewan Singh. Later on, they solemnised marriage against the wishes of the girl’s parents.
