Elderly woman attacked with hoe by neighbour, dies

Ludhiana, February 15

A 70-year-old woman of Hazuri Bagh Colony, who was attacked by a neighbour with a hoe on February 13, succumbed to injuries this morning. The deceased has been identified as Surinder Kaur. Her daughter Ruby was injured in the attack.

Surinder Kaur had been admitted to the PGI in Chandigarh.

The accused, who has been identified as Sajjan Singh of the same colony, has been arrested. A case under sections 307 and 323 of the IPC has been registered against him at the Salem Tabri police station. After the death of the woman, section 302 of the IPC was added to the FIR today, said investigating officer Janak Raj.

In his complaint to the police, Sunil Kumar, son of Surinder Kaur, has alleged that the accused had an old enmity with his family. “On February 13, the accused allegedly started abusing him and his sister. When my mother came out there, the accused brought a hoe and attacked my mother with intention to kill her. My mother suffered serious injuries on the neck,” he alleged.
