Doraha, June 15

Acting tough against encroachers in Doraha, Payal SDM Deepjot Kaur on Wednesday got all encroachments removed from the main market road. Taking a serious note of the reduced space on the road, a warning was issued to shopkeepers not to encroach upon spaces meant for public use.

The SDM along Executive Officer of Doraha Sukhdev Singh and police team headed by Doraha SHO Lakhveer Singh, got the vends removed and also freed the portion illegally occupied by shopkeepers thus creating space for the commuters and shoppers.

The SDM said: “The encroachments along the shops have been permanently uprooted and no shopkeeper shall be allowed to go beyond the prescribed limits. In case of any undue occupation, we shall issue challans and take tough steps so that the residents and commuters may not suffer the least. However, no challan has been issued to any shopkeeper as it was our first warning. But hereafter we shall be taking legal action as well. A similar drive shall be conducted in the next two days,” she added.

The move was appreciated by the public and the shoppers. “We were literally fed up of informing the council but none had dared to get the encroachments removed at this scale. Earlier, the temporary removal meant nothing. Soon after removal, the rehris and shopkeepers used to reoccupy the space. No permanent solution was sought out. The encroachers were usually left with a warning, ” said residents.
