The GHG. Institute of Law for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, organised a national seminar on ‘Criminal Law and Administration of Criminal Justice system: Emerging Issues and Trends’.
Prof Rattan Singh, Director, UILS, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the chief guest and Prof Vandana Ajay Kumar, Department of Laws, Panjab University, was the guest of honour.
Prof Rattan Singh enlightened the audience on criminal law and administration, talking about sub-themes of the LGBT rights, euthanasia and other emerging issues. His views were unconventional which kept the audience enthralled.
Prof Kumar explicated on the topic of criminal law and its administration and highlighted on the sub-themes of jail reforms, the ever-widening scope of article 21 of the Constitution. She dwelt on the important challenges before the criminal law administration in India.
Prof Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Registrar, CT University, talked about the sub-theme growing crime in India and the need for blending morality and ethics in our public life. He discussed crime in various facets of the rural and urban area.
Dhruman Harshadray Nimbale, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Cyber Crimes, Mohali, highlighted the sub-theme of Indian cyber laws in the backdrop of international cyber laws. He talked about website hacking, unauthorised access to banking system, identity theft, intellectual property crime and financial fraud.
Gurpreet Singh Toor, DIG-counter intelligence, Mohali, talked about the sub-theme of drug abuse in Punjab by illustrating his views with the help of a number of case studies.
Prof Dalip Kumar, Chairperson and Dean, Department of Laws, Kurukshetra University, shared his views on general principles underlying the criminal law in India.
