The district administration has allowed shops to open from 7 am to 6 pm following all guidelines. The owners of eating joints, which have been allowed to give takeaway and home delivery service, feel since their business picks up in the evening, they should be allowed to do business further in the evening.
The owner of a leading restaurant on Pakhowal Road said their business had been hit the most as there was still uncertainty when restaurants would be fully functional.
“There are no get-togethers, no kitty parties, no birthday functions, etc, these days. We are left with just takeaway or home delivery options. We should be allowed to provide this service till late in the evening. Most families don’t have dinner before 9 pm or 10 pm,” he said.
Voicing similar views, Bhupinder Singh of Ice Cream Studio demanded that they should be allowed to do business till 10:30 pm. “You cannot imagine the losses we are incurring. Now when we are allowed to do business, the working hours do not suit us. No one would like to have ice cream at 7 am. We can be back on tracks only if we are allowed to make deliveries till late in the evening,” he said.
Shreya Sayal, who runs the Lazeez restaurant on Canal Road, said the timings for takeaway and home deliveries should be extended. “The restaurant industry/eating joints are already in losses. We had opened the eating joint but there were hardly any orders, so we had to shut it. We can think of again opening it only if the timings are extended because our business actually starts during the late evening hours,” said Sayal.
