Four bike-borne robbers looted Rs 8 lakh from an employee of a factory by throwing chilli powder in his eyes on the Gill road this evening.
Sandeep Vadhera, ACP Industrial Area B, said the incident occurred around 5 pm when the employee of the Adinath firm located at Kangawal was on the way to the factory after collecting cash.
As per the worker, Upinder, the moment he hit the Gill road, he was cornered by four bike-borne persons and one of them threw chilli powder in his eyes. They snatched a bag containing Rs 8 lakh from him and fled the scene.
The victim claimed that he was wearing a helmet and the robbers first lifted the glass of his helmet and then threw chilli powder in his eyes.
Vadhera said the employee also suffered minor injuries on his back and arm. A sharp weapon was also recovered from the spot.
Vadhera said although investigation was under way from the angle of loot, the police suspect the victim’s statement. “As per the factory owner, his employee Upinder, after collecting Rs 8 lakh from two clients, was to hand over Rs 4.5 lakh to one party and Rs 2.5 lakh to another, but the incident occurred on the isolated route which brought the role of employee under suspicion. We will soon crack the case,” said the ACP.
