The Model Town Division of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has booked a farm house owner in Basant City for theft of electricity through a ‘kundi’ connection. A penalty of Rs 9.1 lakh and composition fee of Rs 2.10 lakh have been imposed on the consumer, who owns a leading electronics showroom in the city. An FIR in the anti-power theft police station had also been lodged against him.

According to PSPCL SDO-I of Model Town Division Sukarn Singh Grewal, it was during a routine spot checking of power connections in Basant City that four cases of power theft, including the one by farm house owner, were detected. Demand notices of penalty worth Rs 18 lakh were issued to three other consumers found stealing or making unauthorised use of electricity in the area.

Grewal said the farm house indulging in power theft through a kundi connection direct from the transformer had a sanctioned load of some 78 KW but its energy meter was  showing consumption which was grossly disproportionate to the actual consumption.

Officials in the PSPCL have warned the consumers against stealing electricity or making unauthorised use of power which could land them in trouble. “Those indulging in such acts will be liable for criminal proceedings in addition to imposition of heavy penalty for such offences,” they said.
