A fire broke out at the Out Patient Department (OPD) of the Civil Hospital on Thursday. No loss of life or any injury to any patient or hospital staff was reported.
A fire tender was called, which took half-an-hour to control the fire. Sources said no one was present in the eye OPD, when the fire started. Short circuit was said to be the cause behind the fire. Initially, when the staff members noticed flames out of the eye OPD, they immediately raised an alarm. The staff also tried to douse the flames, but could not succeed and the fire tender was called. A fire brigade official said they received a call around 4.15 pm and one fire tender was sent, which managed to douse the flames in 25 to 30 minutes. The fire started from sparking in the AC.
