Ludhiana district has succeeded in getting one-third representation in the Syndicate, the highest decision-making body of Panjab University today. Out of a total of 15 members, 5 members of the district, including two principals have been elected as syndics of Panjab University for 2019.

While Harpreet Singh Dua of GGN Khalsa College has been elected as the member of the syndicate for the fourth term, Naresh Gaur made it for the second time. Principal Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, Dr Narinder Singh Sidhu, Principal Ramgarhia Girls College Dr Inderjit Kaur and KK Sharma of AS College Khanna are the first timers. Dua has been elected from the medical faculty, Naresh Gaur from combined faculty, Prof K K Sharma, Principal NS Sidhu and Principal Inderjit Kaur from science faculty.

The principals and teachers from different colleges expressed that it was a matter of pride that their district would be best represented in the highest decision-making body of Panjab University from now. “Different problems related specifically to students as regards their admissions, courses of study, benefits, etc shall be put forth in a better way,” they added.

The members jointly stated that they would strive to protect the interest of the teaching community as well as students. They expressed that their efforts would be aimed at working towards an integrated system between the university and the colleges affiliated to it. They shared that they would see to it that the university applied for new courses so that the students got the best possible education and build up a global stature for themselves.

They said they would try to stop commercialisation of education as far as possible and would see to it that every child, who wished to pursue higher education was given a chance to pursue his education. They also said financial constraints would not be a hitch in their taking admission to any course of study.
