Five smugglers held with 87 cases of illicit liquor

The city police nabbed five liquor smugglers in separate cases and recovered 85 cases of illegal liquor from their possession.

The city police nabbed five liquor smugglers in separate cases and recovered 85 cases of illegal liquor from their possession.

In the first case, the police nabbed Karam Tayin, a resident of Kangalwal and recovered 58 cases of illegal liquor from him. Investigation officer head constable Bhupinder Singh of anti-narcotic cell said according to a tip off, the accused was openly selling liquor outside his house. The police party conducted a raid and nabbed the accused red handed with illegal liquor.

The police said there were chances of recovery of illegal liquor in further probe.

In another case, the Koom Kalan police also nabbed two smugglers and recovered 24 cases of illegal liquor from them. The accused have been identified as Soni and Juppa, both the residents of Koom Kalan. Investigation officer head constable Kamaljit Singh said a tip off was received that accused had kept huge stock of illegal liquor at their rented accommodation near the civil hospital.

The police party conducted a raid and nabbed the smugglers red handed with illegal liquor. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the accused.

In yet another case, the police division 1 nabbed two liquor smugglers and recovered 5 cases of illegal liquor from them. The nabbed have been identified as Jhony of Mata Rani Chowk and Judge Singh of Dehlon. The police said probe was on to bust the entire supply chain of liquor smuggling.
