Inaugurated just a month ago, flyover near Sherpur Chowk gets damaged in the rain

A portion of the flyover near Sherpur Chowk on NH 44 got damaged in the rain yesterday. Activists have raised questions over the project and demanded that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) should ensure early repair of the damaged portion.

A social worker, Komal Gurnoor Singh, said the flyover was inaugurated just a month ago. The recent rain has exposed the poor quality of construction, he said.

“A slab of the flyover got damaged during the rain exposing the poor quality of work. It is a serious matter. The authorities concerned should ensure early repair of the damaged slab and they must take steps to ensure safety of commuters on the highway,” he said.

The NHAI Project Director at Ambala, Yogesh Chandra, said a rain chute had been damaged but there was no damage to any slab or structure of the flyover. The rain chute was repaired within two or three hours last night.
