Ludhiana, April 23

Ditching swanky cars, Ravneet Singh Bittu will be seen travelling in an old white ambassador to file his nominations on Thursday as Congress candidate from Ludhiana because this is not just a car, but an emotion, a family tradition for him.

This car belonged to his grandfather and former Chief Minister Beant Singh. For Bittu, the white 1986-make car is not only his lucky charm, but more than that.

Bittu has also used this car for filling papers for the 2009 and the 2014 Lok Sabha poll.

“Our family is emotionally connected with it. Whenever anybody from the family travels by this car, he/she has an emotional journey, which is blessed by our grandfather,” he said.

Recalling his grandfather, Bittu said: “He used to travel throughout Punjab in this car and visit Punjab’s villages at a time when militancy was at its peak.” “It is a tradition in our family to travel in this car. When my grandfather fought the 1992 elections, he went by this car to file the nomination papers. My uncle Tej Parkash Singh also used the car, when he contested the elections. So did his son Gurkirat Singh,” Bittu said.

The car which was parked at his Chandigarh residence has been brought to Ludhiana and is sparkling at its best for Bittu’s journey to the district administrative complex on Thursday.
