Following a tip-off, a police party, led by ASI Gurcharan Singh, was present on Jalandhar Bypass when the accused arrive there in a bus. They were to hand over the drug to their clients in Ludhiana city.

During interrogation, Shera said he had been addicted to heroin for the past eight years. His family had disowned him.
