The police have arrested four bootleggers in the city and seized 55 bottles of smuggled liquor. The police have also impounded a two-wheeler being used in the crime.
The Ladhowal police arrested Rajinder Singh while he was selling liquor from his house in Majra Khurd village. Search of the premises led to the recovery of 22 bottles of country liquor. A case has been registered under the Excise Act.
The Division No. 8 police nabbed Naveen Kumar, a resident of Krishna Chowk, Kundanpuri, under sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act while he was returning to his home on his scooter. He was stopped for checking at a naka near Lakkar Pul where the police recovered 11 bottles of whisky from his scooter. The two-wheeler has been impounded.
Another bootlegger, identified as Sudhir Kumar, a resident of Jiwan Nagar, was nabbed by the Focal Point police in Phase VI, Focal Point. He was carrying a bag containing 10 bottles of rum. A case under sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered.
Subhash Kumar, a resident of Guru Arjun Dev Nagar, was arrested by Division No. 7 police on a tip-off that he was selling liquor in front of his house. A raid was conducted on his premises and 12 bottles of country liquor were seized.
