Today, two more Covid patients lost their lives in Ludhiana district, taking the death toll to 42. Besides, 68 fresh cases were reported.

Four new micro-containment zones were declared in Ludhiana which include Rajiv Gandhi Colony (six cases), Jeevan Nagar at Focal Point (eight cases), EWS Colony at Tajpur Nagar (10 cases) and Rani Jhansi Road (five cases). Now, there are a total of eight micro-containment zones in the district. There is no containment zone at present.

500 challaned in two hours

The city police held a special drive on Thursday night to check violations of Covid guidelines and issued 500 challans in two hours for opening of shops and roaming on roads. The police also registered five FIRs.

Those who lost their lives to Covid were a 50-year-old resident of Raikot (admitted to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala) and a 70-year-old resident of Khanna who was admitted to Civil Hospital, Ludhiana. Both patients had co-morbidities.

514 active cases

There are 514 active cases in the district at present. A total of 17,409 persons have been put under home quarantine in the district so far. At present, the number of such persons is 2,722. Today, 271 persons were sent to home quarantine.

Those testing positive today include three ASIs posted with the traffic wing, Moti Nagar police station and with Special Task Force. Three were healthcare workers from Shera Colony on Tibba Road, Gandhi Nagar and from Tagore Nagar E Block.

Those who were screened at OPDs and later tested positive belong to Panchsheel Colony, Basant Vihar on Noorwala Road and the Daba Road area.

Many contacts of Covid patients were reported positive from Tajpur Road, BRS Nagar, Basti Jodhewal, Sundar Nagar and GK Estate.

Support for Covid warriors

United Way Delhi provided 2,450 PPE kits, 50 litre if hand sanitisers, 5,000 three-ply masks, 30,000 gloves, 1,200 N95 masks, five ICU beds, 200 litre of disinfectants, 20 non-contact thermometers, 200 litre of soap, 20 foot-operated sanitiser dispensers to Covid-designated hospitals and care centres in Ludhiana.

These items were handed over to Varinder Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, Sanyam Aggarwal, CEO of Ludhiana Smart City Ltd, in the presence of several others.

Kapil Kumria, Board Chair, United Way Delhi, mentioned during the video-conference that the organisation aimed at aligning their intervention support with the state governments and donors aiming to cover all districts in Punjab.
