Boy crushed to death under truck

Ludhiana: A 20-year-old boy was crushed to death under a rashly driven truck on Jawaddi Bridge. The deceased has been identified as Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Focal Point. His brother, Munna Singh of Dhandari Khurd, said on October 3, while his brother was crossing the road, a truck hit him. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. The police have arrested the driver, Nirmal Singh of Gurdaspur. TNS

Two held with 10 cellphones

Ludhiana: The division number 4 police have arrested two snatchers and recovered 10 mobile phones from them. The accused have been identified as Sunny Sharma of Shivpuri and Amar Singh of Abdulpur. The police said acting on a tip-off, a naka was laid near Chand Cinema, where after intercepting them on bike, they were cornered and arrested. The accused were on their way to sell the looted mobile phones at some shop in Clock Tower. In another case, the city police have arrested two snatchers identified as Narinder Singh, alias Happy, of Salem Tabri and Chetan Kumar, alias Chandu, of Ashok Nagar and recovered four mobile phones and two motorcycles from them. These motorcycles were stolen by them, while mobiles were looted. TNS

Food samples collected

Ludhiana: The District Health Department Ludhiana team on Friday seized five samples of milk, nutralite spread, paneer, tomato sauce and mayonnaise. The team intercepted a milk vehicle in Khanna, Amloh Road, coming from Bareta to Khamano ferrying 12,000-litre milk. Two samples were taken from a dhaba situated at Khanna GT Road. The team also inspected the sauce factory and sealed two samples of sauce and mayonnaise. TNS

Man who attacked cop held

The man who attacked a traffic cop on Thursday was arrested by the police after registering an FIR against him. The accused has been identified as Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Malakpur Bet.  Investigation Officer Anwar Masih, Dugri police station, said the accused was arrested on Thursday night after receiving a complaint from the traffic cop. An FIR under Sections 353(assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty.), 186(obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 189(threat of injury to public servant), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the IPC was registered against the accused. Notably, traffic cop ASI Jatinder Pal Singh was thrashed by a biker, when he was stopped for checking at a routine naka set up near Jawaddi Bridge. A biker, who was riding without a helmet, was signalled to stop. When the police asked him to produce the documents of the motorcycle, he hit the ASI with the helmet he was carrying. Later, he hit the policeman on the head with a brick. TNS
