The Machhiwara police on Sunday claimed to have solved a blind murder with the arrest of Dharminder Dass, a resident of Garhi Tarkhana village.
Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said Yogi Sahney, a native of Bihar who resided at Machhiwara, was found murdered on June 22. A team, led by SP (I), Khanna, Jasvir Singh, CIA In-charge Baljinder Singh and Machhiwara SHO Surinderpal Singh investigated the case. They arrested Dharminder Dass, along with the edged weapon used in the crime, at a naka near the Garhi Tarkhana bridge.
The accused told the police that he was friends with Sahney and they often drank together.
He had borrowed some money from the victim. One night, he reached Sahney’s residence and they both started consuming liquor.
In the mean time, the victim demanded his money back and both entered into a verbal duel.
He attacked Sahni with an edged weapon in the neck and escaped, said the SSP.
Sahney’s mobile phone was also recovered from the accused.
He would be presented before a court on Monday.
