Ludhiana, December 15
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has issued instructions to senior officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for expeditious completion of pending work on six-laning of NH-44 (Old GT Road), including constructions of flyovers at Sherpur and Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital Chowk in Ludhiana.
Kumar Gaurav, president of city-based NGO Yuva, which has been pursuing the work of traffic motivation in the city, along with Tarun Goyal and Rohit Thapar, met Gadkari at his residence in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum with regard to the delay being caused in the completion of the six-laning work on the highway (from Panipat to Jalandhar) and construction of two flyovers (311 and 312) at Sherpur Chowk and Oswal Hospital Chowk in the city.
Gaurav told the minister that the delay in completion of the pending work was causing harassment to lakhs of commuters and also taking a toll by way of loss of precious human lives in road accidents.
According to Gaurav, the minister spoke to senior officials of the NHAI on the phone immediately after going through the memorandum and directed them to take up the issue with construction agencies for early completion of the project. Gadkari specifically told the NHAI officials that pending work for completion of two flyovers in the city be immediately started and the ministry be kept in the loop about the progress.
