The police have arrested three robbers with a sharp weapon and recovered two stolen mobile phones from them. They have been identified as Azad Singh, alias Yaada, of Ashok Nagar; Gautam Kumar, alias Nannu, of Saroop Nagar; and Prince Kumar of the Karol Bagh area in Ludhiana.

The robbers were arrested by a team from the Salem Tabri police near the Kadian Cut area following a tip-off on Wednesday evening. The police have registered a case against them under various sections of the IPC.

The Salem Tabri SHO, Inspector Vijay Kumar, said the police had received secret information that three suspected persons had been spotted near Kadian Cut. The police set up a naka where they signalled three youths riding a motorcycle to stop.

The SHO said the youths failed to produce any document of the motorcycle, and they were detained. “During preliminary investigation, the accused confessed to their involvement in at least half a dozen loot incidents reported in the Salem Tabri area,” he said.

According to the police, the accused are hardened criminals and they had been facing at least six police cases at separate police stations.
