Ludhiana, March 20

The Kotwali police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of vehicle thieves and recovered stolen vehicles from their possession. The gang is involved in more than 30 cases of vehicle theft.

The suspects have been identified as Rohit Singh, alias Kali, of Lambra village in Jalandhar district; and Mehar Singh of Gurdaspur.

Additional DCP-1 Gurpreet Singh Sikand said on March 19, the police arrested the two vehicle thieves following a tip-off. Two stolen motorcycles were recovered from their possession at the time of their arrest. During their questioning, they disclosed about two more stolen motorcycles which the police also recovered.

“When we checked the criminal record of the suspects, we found that they are notorious thieves and are facing several cases of vehicle theft. When the duo was grilled further, they disclosed that they had also stolen one Tata Safari, one tractor and one JCB machine which they had parked in isolated places. The police also recovered those vehicles,” said Sikand.

The suspects had stolen the tractor from Jalandhar and three motorcycles from the Rama Mandi camp, Basti Bawa Khel, Beas, in the state.

The ADCP said the suspects also faced a dacoity case. They had entered a house at Raman Market in the Kotwali area where they tried to loot a woman in 2018. They also fired shots but no one was injured in the firing.
