Rimi, a city resident, said that be it a posh locality or an old city area, the problem of garbage persists everywhere. “Ludhiana is a smart city but when it comes to the problem of garbage, it is seen everywhere. Piles of garbage lying along the roadside have become an eyesore for commuters,” she said.

Social activist Col JS Gill said that responsibility should be fixed. “The person in front of whose house the garbage is dumped should be fined so that the next time he is on alert and does not allow it to happen. Somebody needs to be made accountable to solve the problem,” he said.

Aryan, who lives on Jassian Road, said that garbage dumps have become a haven for flies and mosquitoes and a breeding ground for various diseases. Strict action should be taken against the culprits,” he added.

“Garbage collectors and residents of the city regularly dump waste at numerous locations, which is then lifted in large containers and transported to the main dump site. Sometimes the garbage gets accumulated and is lifted after many days. Foul smell emitting from the garbage makes it difficult to pass through the area,” added another resident.

Chandar Nagar resident Gagandeep further said that the Municipal Corporation should take stern action against those responsible. “I fail to understand why people do not consider city as their own and continue to litter it with garbage,” he said.
