GGSSS lift baseball trophy

LUDHIANA: Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, warded off stiff challenge from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, before emerging victorious to clinch the winners’ trophy in the 13th Senior Ludhiana District Baseball Tournament on Sunday. The three-day tournament was organised by the Ludhiana District Baseball Association here at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Model Town. In the final, the GGSSS girls had to toil hard to outperform hosts GNKC 4-2. The architects of their victory were Virpal Kaur, Ramandeep Kaur and Prabhjot Kaur, who chipped in with one run each. In the match for hard-line cup, Guru Nanak Baseball Club sweat it out against BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, before romping home winners 1-0 to secure the third position. The all-important run was scored by Amandeep Kaur. Ravinder Singh, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, gave away prizes to the winners. In the men’s section, Satish Chander Dhawan Government College besides PPC Baseball Club, Guru Nanak International Public School and Arya College recorded victories to enter the semi finals. Fourteen teams are taking part in the men’s section. In the league phase, BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, drubbed Ryan International School 7-1; Guru Nanak International Public School defeated Guru Nanak Baseball Club 1-0; SCD Government College blanked Shahi Sports College 2-0; PPC Baseball Club prevailed over Shahi Sports College, Samrala 1-0; Arya College beat Shahi Sports Club 3-1; GCL Baseball Club got the better of Baba Zorawar Singh School, Manji Sahib 1-0; Ranjit Baseball Club outplayed Gill Baseball Club 2-1. — OC
