After the arrest of most wanted notorious gangster Preet Sekhon in a joint operation by the Amritsar rural police and the Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) from Chamiari village in Ajnala, the Ludhiana police are set to bring him on production warrant in connection with the January 29, 2020, gold robbery of worth over Rs 90 lakh from VK Jewellers in Ghumar Mandi.

Sekhon was the only accused left to be arrested in the case. After the incident, firstly, the city police had arrested two accused in the case, Bhushan Kumar and Vishnu Soni, alias, Sam of Ganesh Nagar. Later, Sam was arrested by the Khanna police. Bhushan died in the jail due to some illness. The key accused, Tajinder Singh, alias Teja, of Nawanshahr, was arrested by the OCCU wing of the Punjab Police. Honey Tattoo was also arrested.

Despite the arrest of these accused, the police had managed to recover gold worth Rs 8 lakh only. The police suspected that the remaining gold could be in the custody of gangster Preet Sekhon and the police had also claimed that once he was arrested, the remaining gold would be recovered.

ADCP (Crime) Rupinder Kaur Bhatti told The Tribune that the police would bring Sekhon on production warrant soon and his interrogation may lead to the recovery of the remaining gold.

Vinay Jain, owner of VK Jewellers, said after the incident, gold worth about Rs 8 lakh was recovered so far by city police and now with the arrest of gangster Sekhon, again the hope arises regarding the recovery of the remaining gold worth Rs 82 lakh. The police should bring him for questioning so that the total quantity of looted gold could be recovered,” asserted Jain.

“We have full faith in Ludhiana Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal and his team. We will also meet Agrawal to request him to bring Sekhon on production warrant to interrogate him.”

Sekhon was wanted by the police in over 12 cases of murder, attempt to murder and ransom.
