A girl suffered serious injuries after she jumped off a moving auto to chase snatchers who allegedly targeted her near Basti Jodhewal chowk here today.
Passersby, who shifted the girl to a hospital, said the snatchers targeted the victim. The girl, aged around 20 years, was heading toward the Jalandhar bypass from Samrala chowk in an auto-rickshaw. She was sitting on the corner seat in the three-wheeler.
The moment miscreants snatched valuables from her, she confronted with them. The miscreants, however, managed to flee. The girl jumped off the moving auto to chase them. She, however, suffered serious injuries on her head and other body parts and fell unconscious.
Daresi SHO SI Rajinder Pal Singh said as per the CCTV footage, the motorcycle-borne miscreants pounced on the girl. Without fearing for her life, she jumped off the moving auto to chase the snatchers.
The police, however, maintained that as per the CCTV footage, the miscreants could only be seen pouncing on the girl, but it was not yet clear what they managed to take away.
The SHO said the victim’s parents, a resident of Basti Jodhewal, had been traced, but they did not reveal her name. The police recovered an ATM card from the victim’s pocket.
The SHO said till the time the victim regained consciousness, the motive behind the incident could not be cleared.

Girl’s condition critical, shifted to PGI
The police said the victim was initially taken to the Civil Hospital, from where she was referred to the Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. Owing to her critical condition, she was shifted to the PGI, Chandigarh.
