Ludhiana: Thieves targeted a house in Sector 39, Chandigarh Road, and decamped with valuables worth lakhs. House owner Waqar Aalam said on June 4, he, along with his family, had gone to Uttarakhand. When they returned home on June 9, they found the lock of the main door broken and the entire house ransacked. He said the thieves stole 42-gram gold ornaments, 500 gm silver ornaments, Rs 8,000 and other valuables. The police have registered a case. TNS
Man held with 8-gram heroin
Ludhiana: The Division 5 police have nabbed a drug smuggler and recovered 8-gram heroin from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Deepak of Labour Colony. The investigating officer, ASI Gurdial Singh, said acting on a tip-off, the police set up a naka at Midda Chowk and arrested Deepak with the drug. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered. TNS
One booked for kidnapping girl
Ludhiana: The Dehlon police booked a youth on the charges of kidnapping a 12-year-old girl on the pretext of marrying her. The accused has been identified as Suraj Chaturvedi of Kalakh village. Complainant Jaswant Singh of Rangian village told police that on June 2, his daughter left home without informing anybody and later he came to know that she was kidnapped by Suraj who wanted to marry her. The police have launched a manhunt. TNS
10 cases of liquor seized
Ludhiana: The Jamalpur police booked a liquor smuggler and recovered 10 cases of liquor from his possession. The accused has been identified as Dharminder Singh of New Subash Nagar. The police acted on a tip off and said the accused had kept a huge stock of illegal liquor in an empty plot. The police conducted a raid and recovered the liquor. The accused, however, managed to give a slip to the police. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against him. TNS
