Governor to unfurl Tricolour at state-level R-Day celebrations
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will unfurl the national flag at the state-level Republic Day function to be held in Ludhiana on January 26, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal said here on Tuesday.
He held a detailed review meeting at the venue—the sports stadium at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU)—to assess the preparations for the state-level celebrations to be held on Sunday.
He disclosed that the Indian Army will hold a weapons and tanks display near the ground; besides, Army jawans will exhibit Kalaripayattu, an ancient martial art, and a troop of 69 girl students from Army Public School will perform cultural items.
As many as 20 tableaux by different departments will also showcase their programmes and policies during the Republic Day event. Around 2,000 students of various schools will participate in different cultural and PT shows on the occasion.
Jorwal stated that the district had a reputation for hosting the best Republic Day functions in the state each year, a tradition that he promised would be upheld this year.
During the meeting, Jorwal reviewed various arrangements to ensure the event was a success. He stated that a full dress rehearsal would be held on January 23. Additionally, he directed that teams of doctors and paramedical staff should be present at the venue, while municipal corporation officials were asked to ensure cleanliness in and around the venue.
The key issues discussed during the meeting included traffic control, availability of drinking water, refreshments, parking, uninterrupted power supply, and suitable flag-hoisting arrangements. Other logistics covered included the march-past by security forces and performances by the police band.
Jorwal also directed the officials to ensure detailed arrangements for stage decoration, the deployment of health teams, transportation facilities for students, PT shows, and cultural performances by students. He emphasised the need for all departments concerned to put in their best efforts to ensure the success of the event.
Jorwal urged the officials concerned to diligently perform their duties to carry out this event smoothly, highlighting the importance of meticulous planning and execution.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting were ADCs Amarjit Bains and Rohit Gupta and officers from the Indian Army.
