The state government has announced plans to resume bullock cart races, a traditional feature of rural sports fairs, following their temporary suspension. Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Sond made the announcement after inaugurating the second chapter of the Rural Olympics, organised by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Archaeology and Museum, at Suhavia Patti Sports Stadium in Kila Raipur on Friday.

Sond stated bullock cart races are integral of the events such as the Kilaraipur sports fair, adding the state government is considering issuing a notification to permit animal sports, keeping in mind the Supreme Court’s previous ban. He mentioned he had already discussed the matter with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Sond urged sports enthusiasts and athletes to visit the stadium and enjoy the event, which has now been added to Punjab Government’s annual calendar. He praised the district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorewal, for ensuring the success of the event.
